- LSU earned a key victory on the road against #14 Kentucky, beating them 65-58.
- Alabama had no trouble taking down Auburn, defeating them 66-50 on Sunday.
- These two teams last met on February 11, 2024, in a game that LSU won 85-66.
LSU continues to rise in the rankings as they aim for a top seed in the NCAA Tournament. In this game, they face off against the Crimson Tide. Alabama should safely make the field, but could still benefit from a signature home victory.
LSU Still Flying Under Radar
Despite winning the NCAA Tournament just two seasons ago, LSU is not often discussed as a title contender, especially compared to other teams in the top-10. The Tigers can likely blame this on a soft strength-of-schedule. That being said, their 27-2 record is still very impressive. A road win against Alabama would go a long way towards proving their ability.
The Tigers are led by star duo Aneesah Morrow and Flau’Jae Johnson. Morrow has been absolutely stupendous. She has a double-double in 26 of 29 games this season, averaging 18 points per game and over 14 rebounds per game. Morrow is also a gifted defender, typically earning a couple of steals per game. Her impact in this game will be crucial.
Alabama Aiming for Home Upset
Alabama dropped a couple of spots in the AP Top 25 following a 1-1 week. They came up short by 8 points at top-15 Tennessee, before bouncing back in a 66-50 win over the rivals, Auburn. The Crimson Tide are 1-4 against ranked teams, with the sole win being against #23 Michigan State several months ago. This game will be a true test for them.
Leading the way for Alabama offensively is 5th-year Senior Sarah Ashlee Barker. Averaging 17 points per game, Ashlee Barker has helped to raise the Crimson Tide’s floor and keep them in games against tough opponents. It hasn’t been quite enough in the past, but she has averaged closer to 20 ppg over the last month, giving them a chance at beating LSU.
LSU Tigers vs Alabama Crimson Tide Pick
LSU’s lack of quality wins are definitely something worth nothing. Coupled with being on the road in this game, and the Tigers will definitely be at risk of losing. That being said, they are still a top-10 team and a title contender. With the way Aneesah Morrow is playing, it’s hard to imagine Alabama slowing their offense down enough. I’ll take LSU to win 81-67.
