Event Preview
One of the most exciting new additions to the NASCAR schedule returns this weekend, as the streets of Chicago will play host to the Grant Park 165. This weekend’s race was added to the calendar in 2023, with Shane van Gisbergen winning the dramatic inaugural event.
Drivers will complete a total distance of 165 miles this weekend, meaning a total of 75 laps will be covered. A total of 20 and 25 laps will be covered in the first two stages, before the remaining 30 laps make up the final stage.
Chase Elliott kicked off the In-Season Challenge with an excellent victory at the Quaker State 400 last weekend. The victory maintained his excellent run of form, and means that the driver has now finished in the top five in each of his last three starts.
Alex Bowman is the defending champion in the street race, and he deserves plenty of respect after finishing third last time out. The driver has now achieved top 15 finishes in each of his last three starts.
The pressure will be on William Byron this weekend, as his advantage at the top of the Drivers’ Championship has finished after finishing outside of the top 20 in each of the last two races.
Grant Park 165 Picks
Shane van Gisbergen holds very solid claims in his bid to become the first two-time winner of the Grant Park 165. The driver has already won on the NASCAR schedule this season, and the Kiwi could be set to make further history on the Cup Series calendar this Sunday.
