- Aaron Civale takes the mound for the A's
- New York sends its supposed ace Freddy Peralta to the mound
DATE & TIME
Flushing, NY
The A's Have Won 4 Straight
After a slow start, the Athletics have hit their stride since coming to New York to face the Yankees and Mets. They've won 4 straight and are going for a sweep in Queens.
Veteran Aaron Civale takes the start. He struggled with his control against the Yankees in his last start, walking 4 in 5 innings. But he only surrendered 1 run and 2 hits, striking out 6.
The A's have scored 18 runs in their two wins over the Mets. For the season, Shea Langeliers has a .944 OPS and 5 homers. Max Muncy has an .887 OPS and 2 homers. Jeff McNeil is up to .325.
Against Mets starter Freddy Peralta, Tyler Soderstrom is 2 for 3 with 2 singles. Jacob Wilson is 1 for 2 with a single. Muncy is 1 for 2 with a single. Lawrence Butler is 1 for 3 with a single.
The Mets Need to Break Their Skid
The Mets have lost 4 straight and are spiraling. After falling behind 7-1 on Saturday, they cut the deficit to 7-6 before the A's broke it open late against Luke Weaver.
To try and get back on the winning track, New York sends their big offseason pitching acquisition, Freddy Peralta, to the mound.
Objectively, Peralta has had one good start. The other two were shaky. In his last outing against the Diamondbacks, he allowed 3 hits, 3 earned runs, walked 3, and struck out 5 in 4.2 innings. Overall, he has a 4.80 ERA.
Despite their loss in the second game of the series, the Mets had some positive signs. Jorge Polanco and Bo Bichette hit their first homers with New York. Carson Benge has been hitting after a prolonged slump. Marcus Semien is still hovering around .200. The team badly misses the injured Juan Soto.
Against Civale, Bichette is 5 for 18 with a homer and 2 walks. Polanco is 3 for 18 with a double and a home run. Semien is 4 for 12 with s doubles. Tyrone Taylor is 2 for 4 with a double. Luis Robert Jr. is 5 for 17 with a home run.
Athletics vs Mets Pick
The A's have righted their ship after a poor start and are rolling in New York. The Mets are struggling badly. With Peralta their imported #1 starter, they need a big performance from him against the vulnerable Civale.
The Mets will salvage the final game of the series and quiet the noise surrounding them for the moment. The A's will have had a successful road trip in the Big Apple even with the loss.
