Priester a Pleasant Surprise for the Brew Crew
Due to payroll constraints, the Brewers need to find low-cost players and maximize them to compete. They have done that in former Red Sox first-round pick Quinn Priester, acquired in April for two low-level minor leaguers.
In 67.2 innings, Priester has allowed 58 hits and 26 earned runs. He’s walked 26 and struck out 46. He has a 3.46 ERA. In addition, he’s allowed 3 runs or fewer in every start since May 7. He has never faced the Twins.
The Brewers have not been hitting with as much power in 2025 as they have in the past. Only Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, and Rhys Hoskins are in double digits in home runs. They are getting next-to-no production from shortstop Joey Ortiz or third baseman Caleb Durbin. As a team, they have been running wild on the bases. Yelich has 12 stolen bases, Chourio has 15, Sal Frelick has 14, and Brice Turang has 16.
Are the Twins Back To Being Bad?
Can a team have a 13-game winning streak, with it being ignored in the contest of how poorly they’ve played in the rest of their games? This is the question about the Twins.
From May 3 to May 17, the Twins won those 13 straight games to go from seven games below .500 to six games above .500. They were back in playoff contention, and prognosticators who believed them to be a playoff team were suddenly being validated. Since then, they’re 11-19, buried in the NL Central behind the Tigers. This comes after 2024, when they collapsed in September and played as if they didn’t care one way or the other.
To try and win the final game of the series against the Brewers, they send David Festa to the hill. Festa has tossed 26.1 innings, given up 23 hits, and 14 earned runs. He’s struck out 29 and walked 12.
Festa has never faced the Brewers.
For Minnesota, Kody Clemens, whose arrival was a spark for the 13-game winning streak, has fallen to Earth. He’s batting .223, though he has an .809 OPS and 7 home runs. Much of that was accrued in his first few weeks with the team.
Carlos Correa is a shadow of what he once was. He’s batting .246 with a .661 OPS and 5 home runs. Royce Lewis has struggled since his return from injury with a .202 average and 2 homers in 30 games. Only Byron Buxton is pulling his weight with 15 homers, 12 stolen bases, and an .892 OPS.
Brewers vs Twins Pick: Priester Holds Minnesota Down
It seems like a matter of time before the Twins decide to make some substantive changes. They’ve been too underwhelming for too long with the same template from the top down. Priester has been excellent, and the Brewers have pummelled the Twins for two straight days, outscoring them 25-6. They will beat them again to sweep the series.
