Scorching Brew Crew Tries to Keep Streak Going

Eight days ago, the Brewers had lost their second straight game to the Pirates to fall three games below .500. Their play was relentlessly mediocre, consistently hovering a few games over or a few games under .500.

Then, they won the final game of the Pirates series, swept three straight from the Red Sox, then went to Philadelphia and won three straight, sweeping Philly right out of 1st place in the NL East and outscoring them 28-11.

Milwaukee’s 7-game win streak has them looking more like the team that easily won the NL Central in 2024.

Now, as the hottest team in MLB, they start a 3-game set in Cincinnati. Veteran Aaron Civale takes the hill.

Civale only recently returned from a hamstring injury he suffered in his first start. In his two starts since his return, he has tossed 9 innings, given up 7 hits, and 3 earned runs.

Against Civale, the Reds’ Spencer Steer is 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk. Jose Treviño is 2 for 7. Santiago Espinal is 1 for 2 with a double. Elly De La Cruz is 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts.

Rhys Hoskins has been hitting well with an OPS up to .832 with 9 homers. Christian Yelich has a .740 OPS and 12 homers.

The Reds Are Still Trying to Start Their Own Hot Streak

From May 15 to May 19, the Reds won 5 straight to raise their record to 25-24. Since then, they have lost 7 of 11. The club is still a work in progress in Terry Francona’s first year as manager.

In the series opener against the Brewers, Brady Singer takes the mound. Singer was acquired from the Royals in an offseason trade for Jonathan India. With the Reds, he has a 4.60 ERA, has thrown 58.2 innings, given up 54 hits, and 30 earned runs. His ERA was blown up by a terrible start against the Astros in which he surrendered 7 runs in 2.1 innings.

The Brewers have had limited success against Singer. William Contreras is 2 for 6 with a double. Sal Frelick is 3 for 5 with a triple. Brice Turang is 2 for 4 with a double. Jackson Chourio is 1 for 3 with a single. Yelich is 1 for 6 with a single.

The Reds’ De La Cruz has a .785 OPS with 12 homers and 17 stolen bases in 22 attempts.

Several key Reds bats are struggling. Jake Fraley is hitting .200, Matt McLain is at .175, and Steer is hitting .221.

Brewers vs Reds Pick: Milwaukee Will Win Its 8th Straight

Civale has pitched well in his two starts since returning, and the Brewers are getting timely hits just as they did in 2025. Given how the Reds have been having trouble gaining consistency, Milwaukee will continue its streak with another win.
