A stacked afternoon of racing is set for Aqueduct on Saturday, March 1, 2025, as four stakes races will be held in New York. Among those include a key prep on the Road to the Kentucky Derby in the form of the G3 Gotham. Find our picks for every race on the card here.

Aqueduct Horse Racing Picks

G3 Gotham Stakes (Aqueduct R8- 4:18 PM ET)

We’ll start with the feature on the card this Saturday, which is the G3 Gotham. Run over a mile for horses aged three, it is a contest on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

Sand Devil and Sacrosanct both boast progressive profiles, with the former recently landing the Damon Runyon Stakes over course and distance. However, I’m prepared to take a chance on Normandy Coast at the prices.

The Eddie Kenneally runner has won twice from three starts, and continued to show a gradual impression based on speed figures when landing an allowance optional claimer at Fair Grounds in January. Up in trip today, but remains interesting from a solid draw in two.

G3 Tom Fool Stakes (Aqueduct R4- 2:13 PM ET)

The G3 Tom Fool Stakes is the first of the graded races on the schedule at Aqueduct on Saturday. Six furlongs will be covered on the dirt, with a purse of $175,000 up for grabs.

Runninsonofagun looks a very consistent contender from the John Toscano yard, with the six-year-old previously winning the G3 Bold Ruler and taking second in the Toboggan Stakes.

However, his knack of finishing second or third means that there could be value elsewhere in the market. Top Gunner looks an interesting contender for the Brad Cox team.

The eight-year-old posted a mighty 132 speed figure over course and distance at the start of the year, and has little to find on Runninsonofagun based on his fourth in the Gravesend Stakes in December.
