Race Preview
A high-quality weekend of racing action in the U.S. kicks off with the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks on Saturday, with the G1 Haskell due off less than ten minutes later.
The Coaching Club American Oaks has been an important prep ahead of the Breeders’ Cup Distaff in recent years, and the victor this weekend will likely move to the top of the betting for the race in November.
Immersive is likely to be a clear favorite this weekend for the Brad Cox team, despite coming up short in the Monomoy Girl Overnight Stakes behind Take Charge Milady last month. The filly was the standout two-year-old last season, concluding with victory in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Scottish Lassie is a fascinating runner this weekend. She was well-held in the G1 Acorn Stakes at the start of June at Saratoga, but a faster surface this weekend could aid her chances. Sweet Seraphine could also be an improving contender from the Cherie DeVaux yard. She continued her strong form with a recent win over a mile at Aqueduct.
Take Charge Milady will get weight off many of her market rivals this weekend, and she already has a win to her name against Immersive. It will be challenging to withhold that form with the Brad Cox runner now having a run under her belt.
Coaching Club American Oaks Picks
Immersive demands huge respect this weekend. However, I’m a big fan of Mark Casse-trained La Cara. She put her disappointing run in the Kentucky Oaks firmly behind her last time out when landing the G1 Acorn Stakes by an impressive three-length margin.
She has also already beaten Take Charge Milady impressively this year in the G1 Ashland.
