Event Preview

There are few more prestigious events on the LPGA Tour than the US Women’s Open. This weekend’s event is one of five major championships on the schedule, but it is the oldest, having been staged for the first time in 1946.

However, this weekend’s major will present new challenges to the players, as it will be the first time that an LPGA Tour has been staged at Erin Hills. But, the course has played host to major events in the past, with Brooks Koepka landing the 2017 U.S. Open at the course.

Thai superstar Atthaya Thitikul will be a red-hot favorite for the Women’s US Open this weekend. The 22-year-old has been playing at an ultra-high standard throughout the season, and warmed up for the major with a four-shot win in the Mizuko Americas Open at the start of the month.

However, the fact that Thitkul is yet to win a major would be a slight concern, especially considering her short price for success this weekend. Therefore, Nelly Korda will be a leading contender for the U.S.

The 20-time winner on the LPGA Tour has won two majors, including a success in last year’s Chevron Championship. Her previous best showing at the US Women’s Open came in 2022 when she finished in a tie for eighth.

Hae Ryu-ran is also an interesting contender this weekend. The 24-year-old has won three events on the LPGA Tour, and has continued to catch the eye in majors across recent years, including in this major last year when finishing in a tie for ninth.

U.S. Women’s Open Picks

There is a very competitive feel to the Women’s US Open this year, and cases can be made for many of the top contenders in the betting. However, we like the chances of Lydia Ko.

The 28-year-old has won 31 professional events, and is a three-time major champion. Her best showing at the U.S. Women’s Open came back in 2016 when finishing in a tie for third, but her recent record of making the cuts does make appeal at her starting price this weekend.
