Will a Playoff be Required to Determine the Winner?

Playoffs have been a rarity throughout Open Championship history, with the latest edition requiring an extra hole coming in 2015 when Zach Johnson held off Marc Leishman and Louis Oosthuizen.

In fact, that was the first playoff required at the major since 2009. This Millennium, there have been four playoffs at The Open, and there hasn’t been a playoff required in the two editions of the major at Portrush.

Shane Lowry won by six strokes last time that Portrush hosted the event, while Brian Harman also won by six shots in 2023.

Winning Nationality

American players have dominated at The Open in recent years, with three of the last four winners being from the U.S. Hopes of further U.S. success will be high this year, as Scottie Scheffler dominates the betting.
