The final PGA Tour event before the focus switches to the final major of the 2025 season is set for The Renaissance Club this weekend.

The Scottish Open is a widely-regarded event in its own right, and players will be competing for their share of the $9 million purse.

This weekend’s event will give players a final chance to build momentum before play gets underway at Royal Portrush a week on Thursday.

Event Preview

The final opportunity for players to secure their spot in The Open Championship arrives this weekend, as the Scottish Open is staged at the Renaissance Club. A total distance of 7,237 yards will be covered on the co-sanctioned event between the PGA and DP World Tours. A purse of $9 million is available for players.

The top two in the betting will be considerably shorter than the remainder of the field. Rory McIlroy finally looked to rediscover his form after finishing strongly at the U.S. Open last month, before that effort was followed up with a T6 at the Travelers Championship. McIlroy also boasts plenty of course form, winning in 2023 and taking fourth in 2024.

Scottie Scheffler has been the dominant player on the PGA Tour this season, and was T3 n his last appearance at the Scottish Open in 2023. His electric form has seen him win three of the last six events, while he hasn’t finished any worse than eighth in the last nine.

Robert MacIntyre is the defending champion and deserves plenty of respect. Since then, he finished an agonizing second at the U.S. Open. Collin Morikawa is another player who has looked to be back in form, finishing in a T8 at the Rocket Classic last month.

Scottish Open Picks

Scheffler and McIlroy are both incredibly short in the betting, and could be vulnerable. Therefore, a chance could be taken on Tommy Fleetwood, who is edging nearer to a first win on the PGA Tour.

Fleetwood was last in action when second at the Travelers Championship, while he has finished in the top six on his last three appearances at the Scottish Open.
