Event Preview

One of the most prestigious events on the PGA Tour is set for this weekend. The Canadian Open was first staged in 1904, and it has been held annually every year since then, with the exceptions coming during World War One, World War Two, and the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, it is the third oldest continuously held event on the PGA Tour.

Players will compete across a distance of 6,966 yards at TPC Toronto this weekend, with all eyes likely to be on Rory McIlroy, as the Masters champion bids to get his form back on track ahead of the U.S. Open. McIlroy has an excellent record in the event, winning two of the last four editions.

Shane Lowry is also worth consideration this weekend, as the Irishman has been ultra-consistent on the PGA Tour. Lowry has finished as the runner-up on two occasions, and has also finished in the top ten on four further occasions in 2025.

A couple of Canadian players will be hoping for home success. Taylor Pendrith looks like a standout contender after finishing in a tie for fifth at last month’s PGA Championship. Corey Conners could also be hard to overlook after achieving five top ten finishes this season.

Canadian Open Picks

We could foresee a home success this weekend. Nick Taylor warmed up for the Canadian Open with an excellent tie for fourth at the Memorial Tournament. He led the event at the half way stage. He also has previous winning experience at the event after winning his home competition in 2023.
