The final major of the season is creeping into sight, and this weekend’s action on the DP World Tour will see the BMW International Open staged in Munich.

The Golf Club Munich Elchenried hosts one of the final prep events before The Open Championship, and it could present players with a final opportunity to build momentum before the final major on the schedule.

Event Preview

One of two DP World Tour events to be held in Germany is set for Munich this weekend. The BMW International Open has been staged annually in Munich since 2012, but it was first contested back in 1989. The field will compete in the stroke play event over a distance of 7,347 yards, with the par 72 event offering a prize fund of $2.5 million.

Ewen Ferguson was the most recent champion at the competition, as the Scotsman held off David Micheluzzi and Jordan Smith to win by two strokes. However, some talented players have also won the event in recent years, including Viktor Hovland in 2021.

Patrick Reed is a notable player involved this weekend, as the American bids to maintain his strong recent run of form after finishing in the top 25 at a high-scoring U.S. Open. The 34-year-old hasn’t competed on the European Tour since finishing in a tie for 60th at the Bahrain Championship in early February.

Rasmus Neergard-Petersen’s long game should serve him well in Munich this weekend, and his reliable recent form will make him a strong contender. Jordan Smith is another worth considering after finishing in a tie for second in the most recent edition of the competition.

BMW International Open Picks

Eugenio Chacarra could be the interesting contender based on the prices this weekend.

The young star was the winner of the Indian Open earlier this year, and has since impressed despite failing to make the cut at the PGA Championship. However, this course suits his game much better, and that makes him an eye-catching play at +2500.
