Event Preview

Typically regarded as one of the most exciting races on the Formula 1 schedule, the attention turns to Silverstone this weekend as the oldest World Championship race on the calendar is staged. The British Grand Prix was first held back in 1926, and it has been held at Silverstone annually since 2011.

McLaren has been the dominant team throughout the season, winning all but three of the Grand Prix. However, the battle for the Drivers’ Championship is heating up, with just 15 points separating teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. The latter cut away at the deficit after holding on to the race win in Austria last time out.

But, there has been recent evidence to suggest that the chasing pack are closing the gap. Ferrari showed their qualifying pace last Saturday, but they lacked the race speed to truly make inroads on the two McLaren drivers.

However, Lewis Hamilton always has a funny knack of delivering special performances for his home Grand Prix, evident after winning the race for the ninth time in 2024.

Max Verstappen has ruled himself out of the Championship battle after retiring last Sunday. However, Red Bull have huge questions to answer in their battle in the Constructors’ Championship, as Yuki Tsunoda has scored just two points since joining the team.

Mercedes have also been strong in recent weeks, with George Russell following up his win in Canada with a fifth-place finish last weekend. Williams will be hoping for better in their home race this weekend. A sign of their issues is the fact that Alexander Albon has retired from the last three races.

British Grand Prix Picks

Due to the impressive record boasted by Hamilton, it is hard to ignore the former world champion in terms of a podium finish this weekend. However, as a race winner, we like the chances of Piastri, who was undeniably the quicker of the two McLarens in Austria seven days ago.
