Fight Preview
All eyes will be on Ryan Garcia as he makes his return to the boxing ring in early May. The moneyline favorite was last in action against Devin Haney last February.
But despite winning the fight via majority decision, and knocking his opponent down in three rounds, the victory was stripped from his record after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. Despite pleading his innocence, Garcia ultimately accepted a one-year ban.
Despite the controversy, Garcia remains one of the most talented boxers of his generation. He has won 24 of his 26 professional fights, with the only other blip on his record aside from his no-contest against Haney coming in the form of a knockout loss against Gervonta Davis in April 2023.
Rolando Romero is easy to overlook based on the odds, but he has a respected pedigree at the highest level. The 29-year-old is a former WBA super lightweight champion, and he has won 16 of his 18 professional bouts.
Romero’s power could make this a fascinating contest, with 13 of his 16 victories coming inside the distance. However, it could also be worth noting that both of his professional defeats have been suffered across his last four bouts.
Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando Romero Pick
Romero’s proven power ensures that this will be an interesting challenge for Garcia, especially after his knockout loss against Davis a couple of years ago.
However, we fully expect Garcia to show why he is one of the best boxers on the planet by scoring a stoppage win, and ultimately set up a must-see rematch against Haney later in the year.
