A pivotal weekend at the top of the Premier League standings saw Man City and Arsenal lose ground on Liverpool.

The Reds showed excellent character to come back from a goal down to beat Brighton, which has seen Arne Slot’s side move two points clear at the summit. There was also a massive result at the bottom of the standings, as Southampton claimed a first win of the campaign against Everton.

However, the waits for Ipswich and Wolves continued after throwing away leads in home matches on matchday ten. You can find some of the top performers in the Premier League based on the stats from this weekend here.

Anthony Gordon Shines for Newcastle in Win Over Arsenal

It has been a difficult start to the season for Newcastle, but Anthony Gordon helped the Magpies gain a much-needed home win over Arsenal in the early kick-off on Saturday.

The England international set up the winning goal at St. James Park, as his cross was beautifully headed home by Alexander Isak. Gordon exceeded the Expected Assists stat of 0.16 to set up the winner, and had an ICT Influence of 28.0 based on FPL stats.

The goal was the only big chance created by the Magpies, and the winger was a constant threat in transitions for the home side against Mikel Arteta’s tite-chasing visitors.

Special Mohamed Salah Completes Liverpool Turnaround

Liverpool have emerged as the leading contender for the Premier League title this season, as they were the only side in the top four places to claim victory on matchday ten.

Not for the first time, Mohamed Salah was the standout player for the Reds, scoring the game-clinching goal at Anfield against Brighton. The winger accumulated an xG in terms of goal involvements of 0.65, and achieved an xG of 0.53 for the Reds.

The FPL stats show that Salah has been one of the standout players in the Premier League this season, averaging an ICT Influence of 38.8, and an ICT Creativity rating of 21.8. Given Salah’s form, the Reds could be a hot favorite to dethrone Man City in 2024-25.

Ola Aina Shines For Nottingham Forest

It has been a stunning start to the season for Nottingham Forest, and they look set to end matchday ten in the top four positions.

While Chris Wood has been gaining all the plaudits, Ola Aina also deserves special recognition. The full-back scored the third goal in Forest’s home win over the Hammers on Saturday, and completed 91% of his passes. Aina recorded a match rating of 8.29 with WhoScored, and was dominant in his area of the pitch when squared up by Jarrod Bowen.

In his 89 minutes on the field, the defender made four tackles, one interception, and one clearance. He was also a constant threat in the offensive areas, registering one key pass and one successful dribble.

Matheus Cunha Rescues Wolves Against Crystal Palace

It has been a challenging start to the 2024-25 season for Wolves, and their wait for a first win of the season continued following an entertaining 2-2 draw at Molineux against Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

However, it hasn’t been for the lack of trying for star forward Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian has been the top-rated Wolves star in most matches this season, achieving WhoScored ratings of 8.35 and 7.48 in matches against Brighton and Palace, respectively.

Cunha registered an excellent assist against the Eagles on Saturday, with his outside-of-the-foot pass being the standout moment of quality in the West Midlands. Cunha successfully completed 74.3% of his passes against the Eagles, and also worked hard defensively for the team after making one tackle and one clearance.

Moises Caicedo Shines in Match Void of Quality at Old Trafford

Chelsea’s fine run of form continued at Old Trafford on Sunday, taking a well-deserved point against Man United in arguably the match most void of quality this weekend.

The Blues fell behind, but the game was levelled following an excellent strike by Moises Caicedo. The defensive midfielder is beginning to justify his big transfer fee this term, and was influential in nullifying any potential threat posed by the Red Devils on Sunday.

Caicedo achieved a WhoScored rating of 7.95, and completed 84.1% of his passes. Despite scoring the equalizer, it was his work in the defensive areas that caught the eye. He made three tackles, two clearances, and one interception to restrict United.
