• The NFL 2025 MVP odds have the usual suspects, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen at the top of the board
  • Those three players have won the award in 5 of the past 7 years, including the last 3
  • Which QBs could break that string and jump ahead of Jackson, Mahomes, and Allen to win the MVP?

QBs Almost Always Win the NFL MVP

The last non-QB to win the MVP was Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in 2012. Before that, running backs Shaun Alexander of the Seahawks and LaDainian Tomlinson of the Chargers won it in consecutive seasons in 2005-2006.

With that reality in mind and that it is a QB-centric league, it’s almost certain that a quarterback will win the 2025 NFL MVP.

Allen, Jackson, Mahomes, and Aaron Rodgers have won it every year since 2018. Rodgers is +8000 to win it for the Steelers.

Barring injury, those Big 3 will be there again. However, other contenders could join the conversation.

Who Might Break the String of the Big 3?

Joe Burrow, Bengals (+550)

This would not be an upset since Burrow has the second-lowest odds to win the 2025 MVP. However, he has had major injuries that have sabotaged him. He has won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year twice. He finished in the top 4 of the MVP voting in 2022 and 2024.

Last season, Burrow led the league in completions, yards, and TDs (43). He only threw 9 picks. With the Bengals’ high-powered offense and the flashy numbers he posts, he’s a strong choice to win the MVP.

Jayden Daniels, Commanders (+1000)

Daniels was the #2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft behind Caleb Williams, with Williams viewed as slightly better in every category. Then the games started.

As bad as the 2024 season went for Williams, it went in the opposite direction for Daniels. With competent coaching, a Commanders team that was due for some good luck, a strong offensive supporting case, and tons of maturity, Daniels was the Offensive Rookie of the Year, made the Pro Bowl, and led the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game.

While there could be a step back for him and the team now that they’re not sneaking up on anyone and are dealing with top receiver Terry McLaurin’s contract drama, he is still an MVP challenger.

C.J. Stroud, Texans (+2000)

Like Daniels might be giving the Bears pause that they made the wrong choice with the first overall pick, the Panthers’ selection of Bryce Young first overall led to a dispute within the organization as it was alleged that then-head coach Frank Reich wanted Stroud while owner David Tepper overruled him for Young.

Although Young dramatically improved in the second half of the 2024 season after a horrific start to his career, Stroud is polished and poised. But is he ready to reach the stratosphere of the elite?

In his first two seasons, Stroud played in a safe, high-percentage offense. Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik was fired and replaced by Nick Caley. Caley spent the past two seasons working as an offensive assistant for Sean McVay with the Rams. Before that, he was with the Patriots for eight years as tight ends coach. Expect them to open it up and for Stroud to put up glossier numbers.

But will they be MVP numbers? That may hinge on the Texans’ team performance. If they falter, it won’t be because of Stroud.

NFL 2025 MVP Pick

The easy choice is to stick with Allen, Jackson, or Mahomes. However, this is going to be Burrow’s year to take home the league’s biggest individual honor.
