Most of the Eagles’ Championship Roster Returns for 2025

There has been limited turnover for the Eagles from 2024 to 2025. They parted ways with Darius Slay, CJ Gardner-Johnson, Kenny Gainwell, Josh Sweat, Mekhi Becton, Milton Williams, and Kenny Pickett.

They added A.J. Dillon, Josh Uche, Kylen Granson, Harrison Bryant, Adoree’ Jackson, Patrick Johnson, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

Importantly, the club gave a contract extension to Saquon Barkley and retained Zack Baun. Wide receiver A.J. Brown and quarterback Jalen Hurts seem to have made peace, and Brown appears happy (for the moment).

Head coach Nick Sirianni was also signed to a long-term contract extension.

Their 2025 NFL Draft received positive grades across the spectrum, led by Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell.

Their Schedule is Rough

The Eagles play the NFL’s opening game on Thursday, Sept. 4, hosting the archrival Cowboys. They play eight 2024 playoff teams this coming season, including the Chiefs, Rams, and Commanders. They play the Bears, who will undoubtedly be better under first-year head coach Ben Johnson and a more comfortable Caleb Williams.

The only games that are, on the surface, first-glance wins are the two against the Giants and hosting the Raiders. Still, the Giants will have competence at quarterback with Russell Wilson and had a solid draft. The Raiders under Pete Carroll and QB Geno Smith will be a challenge.

What Problems Could Arise?

Sirianni solidified his position as Eagles’ head coach with a Super Bowl title after there were calls for his termination after the 2023 collapse. His immature behavior was largely curbed in 2024. Despite that, he is highly emotional, and the problems could resurface, especially if there is complacency that frequently accompanies the championship afterglow.

Brown is always a wild card for expressing his displeasure and causing problems on and off the field, though the team has weathered those storms in the past and come out positively on the other side.

Can Barkley be as unstoppable as he was in 2024? He rushed for 2,005 yards and added 278 receiving yards with 15 total touchdowns. In the postseason, he ran for 499 yards and scored 5 touchdowns. He was an All-Pro, the AP Offensive Player of the Year, and was third in the AP MVP voting behind Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson.

As great as he was, it was a heavy workload. Of course, Barkley’s work ethic is otherworldly.

Speaking of heavy…

They seemed to account for these considerations by signing former Packer running back A.J. Dillon, whose quadriceps are comparable to Barkley’s, hence the nicknames “Quadfather” and “Quadzilla.”

Will Baun be as tremendous as he was in 2024 when he was an All-Pro and came in fifth for AP Defensive Player of the Year?

GM Howie Roseman accounts for these potential issues and is masterful and finding puzzle pieces that fit into his mosaic.

Notably, kicker Jake Elliott had a poor year (for him), but the Eagles are sticking with him for now. It’s something to watch, particularly with Justin Tucker on the market.

Eagles Over/Under for Wins

As the defending champs and with two Super Bowl appearances under Sirianni in the last three years, it’s unwise to bet against Philly being in the mix again. Their schedule is hard, but they are well-prepared and intense. They had a good offseason and a well-regarded draft. They will win at least 12 games.
