- Boston is a huge favorite to win with -800 odds, while New York sits at +550.
The Knicks and Celtics have a storied history as rivals. It’s been 12 years since they last met in the postseason, and over 40 since their last faceoff in the 2nd-round or later. This matchup projects as lopsided, but if New York exceeds expectations it could become a thrilling series.
Knicks vs Celtics History
Boston and New York have rivalries in every sport, with the Celtics and Knicks existing as one of the most famous. Unfortunately, the lack of success for the Knicks in the 2000s and 2010s put a bit of a damper on what was once an excellent rivalry. Both times are finally back in contention now, but Boston is still a far better team. Can the Knicks pull off the improbable and advance?
This rivalry has been historically lopsided, despite a few years of brutally competitive clashes. The Celtics hold a 308-190 (.618) record against the Knicks all-time, including a 67-28 (.705) record since 2002. They are 8-1 in the last two years and approach the rivalry’s 500th matchup in this series with a major advantage. Even so, New York has real talent and can’t be written off.
