Qatar vs USA Preview

US Looking For Third Straight Final

The United States will be looking to reach a third straight final on Thursday evening. They have won just once in their previous two appearances in the final, as they won the 2017 instalment of the competition, beating Jamaica 2-1 in the final. USA were beaten in the most recent Gold Cup final in 2019 by Mexico. The USA have been excellent throughout this year’s Gold Cup, as they have won all four games that they have played to this point.

They have won three of the games that they have played 1-0, which includes their most recent quarterfinal clash against Jamaica. It was a tense outing for the American side, as they needed to wait until the final ten minutes to break the deadlock, as Matthew Hoppe scored with seven minutes remaining. This could be another testing fixture for this young American side, but they look more than ready for the challenge.

Qatar Hoping To Reach First Final

Qatar have been competing in their first Gold Cup this year, as the nation looks to prepare for their home World Cup in just over a year. They have been far from embarrassed throughout the competition to this point, as they have won three of the four games that they have played. Qatar drew their opening game 3-3 against Panama, before winning back-to-back games against Grenada and Honduras to close out the group stages.

They have certainly been one of the most interesting nations to watch in the Gold Cup this summer, as they have been involved in a number of high-scoring games. That was once again the case in the quarterfinal clash with El Salvador. Qatar raced into a 3-0 lead courtesy of goals from Abdulaziz Hatem and two for Almoez Ali. However, they allowed El Salvador back into the game, as their opponents scored twice in the space of three minutes. Fortunately, they were able to hand on to win 3-2.

Qatar vs USA Pick

This could be an entertaining fixture between the sides, as Qatar are averaging over 2.5 goals in the games that they have played in the competition to this point. However, defensively there are big questions surrounding the Qatar team. The USA have far less questions to answer as they have been consistent throughout the Copa America. That defensively strength could be crucial as they sides meet in the semi-finals, and we expect the Americans to book their spot in a third straight final on Thursday.
