PSG vs. Girona is set for the Champions League League Phase on Wednesday, September 18.

The Parisians are likely to be solid favorites in the betting to claim a matchday one success, as they come up against Girona, who will be making their debut in the competition in 2024-25.

It has been all change at PSG during the summer, with Kylian Mbappe finally completing his long-awaited move to Real Madrid. However, despite the departure of the Frenchman, there will still be an expectancy on Luis Enrique that PSG should have the quality to go deep in the Champions League this term.

The French side previously reached the final in 2019-20, achieving their best win rate in Europe since a UEFA Cup campaign in 2002-03. Since that run to the final, the Parisians have been eliminated in the round of 16 in two of the last three seasons.

Last term, they made it through to the semi-finals, but their win rate of 41% was their lowest since 2008-09. Initial signs this season appear positive after winning all three of their opening matches in Ligue 1, netting 13 times overall.

Girona will be making their Champions League debut this term after securing a memorable top-four finish in La Liga last season. Their form at the start of the season has been encouraging after winning two of their opening four matches.

Girona has some excellent momentum ahead of matches against Barcelona and PSG this week after scoring six goals across their last two league matches against Sevilla and Osasuna.

However, they will need to be at their best defensively if they are to have any hope of claiming a famous win on their Champions League debut in Paris.
