Harrison Has Turned Into One of the Best Starters in the NL
Kyle Harrison is 7-1 with a 1.57 ERA. He came to Milwaukee from Boston in February as part of a trade the Brewers won decisively, and he has been the team's second-best pitcher behind Jacob Misiorowski in a rotation that is genuinely hard to score on. His last three starts were a 12-strikeout win over the Giants, an 11-strikeout shutout over the Cubs, and a five-inning shutout over the Cardinals. He hasn't given up more than one run in any of them.
The ERA is not a mirage. His xFIP sits at 2.83 and his 1.03 WHIP tells the same story: he's not allowing traffic, and the traffic he does allow doesn't score. Milwaukee is 39-23, seven games over .500 in its last ten, and carrying one of the better road records in the National League.
Christian Yelich, Jake Bauers, and Brice Turang give the Brewers lineup three reliable run-producing options. Against a pitcher like Springs, they don't need much.
Springs Is Having a Difficult Season
Jeffrey Springs is 3-6 with a 4.37 ERA. The Athletics signed him to anchor the back of their rotation after his 2024 Tommy John return showed he still had good stuff. The results in 2026 have been inconsistent: Springs can work deep into games and keep the ball in the yard, but he's been tagged for multiple runs in five of his last eight starts.
The Athletics are 30-34 and have lost seven of their last ten games. Their offense has enough to be competitive in the right matchup; Lawrence Butler and Brent Rooker give Las Vegas genuine run-scoring threats. Against Harrison right now, those threats need to turn into runs early, because the middle innings are not a place where Oakland has been punishing good pitching.
