World Cup Group G Teams

Belgium

Rudi Garcia’s Belgium will be heavily favored to top Group G at the World Cup. The Red Devils have qualified for the last three editions of the competition. However, they were shockingly dumped out in the group stage in 2022. As is typically the case, Belgium cruised through qualification, winning five of their eight fixtures, scoring 29 goals.

Their statement win this year came in the form of a 5-2 success against the USA, before they played out a 1-1 draw against Mexico. Many of their Golden Generation players have now retired, but world-class stars such as Thibaut Courtois, Kevin De Bruyne, and Romelu Lukaku continue to play an important role.

Egypt

Egypt will be led by Hossam Hassan at the World Cup this summer. The nation are back on the global stage for the first time since crashing out in the group stage in 2028, and they are yet to win a match in six attempts at the World Cup. However, they qualified for this summer’s tournament in impressive fashion, winning eight of their ten matches.

Earlier this year, they showed their attacking quality to reach the semi-finals at AFCON. Credit can also be taken from their recent performances, beating Saudi Arabia and holding Spain to a 0-0 draw. World-class attacking players Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush will be crucial to their chances in the Americas.

Iran

Iran will be playing in their seventh World Cup this summer, but they will be aiming to progress further than the group stage for the first time. The National Team’s involvement has made international headlines, but their spot in the tournament was confirmed after dominating their qualification campaign with 14 wins in their 18 fixtures.

Recent performances have been mixed since losing the Al Ain International Cup final, losing against Nigeria, before impressively beating Costa Rica. A long shot, and their attacking quality shouldn’t be dismissed.

New Zealand

Darren Bazeley’s New Zealand round off the teams involved in Group G. The dominant nation in the Oceania region has qualified for two editions of the World Cup, famously going unbeaten in their group stage exit in 2010. In qualifying, the All Whites won all five of their matches, scoring 29 goals and conceding once.

However, as has typically been the case, they have struggled when coming up against higher-ranked opponents since then. New Zealand have been easily beaten by Finland, Ecuador, and Colombia since the start of November. They will be up against it to qualify from Group G.

World Cup Group G Winner Picks

Belgium are the dominant nation in Group G, and they will be hard to overlook when making World Cup picks. The battle for second will be fascinating, but based on Egypt’s poor record at the competition, Iran could create headlines by taking the runners-up position.
