The A's started the 2026 season by losing 5 of their first 6 games. Over the past weekend, however, they won 2 of 3 over the contending Astros.
Against the Yankees, they send veteran righty Aaron Civale to the hill. In his first start of the season, Civale got the win over the Braves, tossing 5 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 earned runs, and 1 homer. He walked 1 and struck out 3.
The A's have struggled at the plate this season apart from Shea Langeliers and Max Muncy. Langeliers is leading the majors in home runs with 5.
As a team, they are batting .228. Nick Kurtz, Jeff McNeil, Denzel Clarke, and Brent Rooker are all batting below .200.
No Athletics batter has ever faced Cam Schlittler in the majors.
It's only two starts in 2026, but the combination of Cam Schlittler's performance this season and how he handled the pressure of the 2025 regular season and postseaon are making him look like a Cy Young Award contender.

On paper, it is nearly impossible to see the Athletics winning this game. Schlittler has been unhittable. The Yankees, though struggling at the plate, have a history of beating on Civale.
The A's played well over the weekend and have plenty of power, but given the pitching matchup and how well the Yankees have played, it should be a win for the home team in the Bronx.
