Event Preview
F1 action continues for the second weekend running on March 15, as the Shanghai International Circuit hosts the Chinese Grand Prix. The race returned to the calendar following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2024, with Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri winning the last two editions.
The race will see drivers complete a total distance of 305.066 km, which is made up of 56 laps. Qualifying will be vitally important, with Piastri converting his pole into a race win 12 months ago.
We still know very little about the cars following regulation changes this season, but the weekend in Australia indicates that Mercedes holds a clear edge. George Russell finished nearly a second clear of the field in the opening qualifying phase of the season, and the Brit could take a huge grip on the top spot in the championship in China.
McLaren and Ferrari both endured challenges in the opening round, with both teams struggling with electrical issues at key stages. Red Bull’s problems also look apparent, as Max Verstappen has failed to get to grips with his new 2026 car after crashing out in Q1.
Big problems at Aston Martin are also making headlines, with many expecting the team to excel in 2026. However, it appears as though the team will be fighting at the back of the grid with Cadillac, who weren’t competitive in the opening round.
Chinese Grand Prix Picks
Mercedes’ domination could continue in China. The constructor has a healthy advantage over the chasing pack, and barring any reliability issues, George Russell looks like the outstanding chance to win the race.
