- The Sparks lost to the Valkyries once again, falling to 3-7 on the season.
- Las Vegas also lost to Golden State most recently, being defeated 95-68.
- These two teams last met on May 30, in a game that the Aces won 96-81.
The WNBA season is underway with some key matchups. In our Sparks vs Aces WNBA pick, two struggling teams are seeking a win to turn things around. After a huge offseason trade, these teams are new rivals.
Sparks Aim to Build Momentum
The Sparks haven’t had the greatest start to the season, despite making major moves in free agency to acquire Kelsey Plum. They are still not at full-strength, with 2024 1st-round pick Cameron Brink working her way back from injury. In the meantime, Azura Stevens has emerged as a bright spot in their frontcourt. Averaging 13.7 ppg, 8.8 rpg and nearly two assists, blocks, and steals, Stevens has made a notable impact.
New-Look Aces Starting to Mesh
Prior to their blowout loss to the Valkyries, Las Vegas had been heating up. They won four of the last five games entering that defeat, which made it all the more surprising. Inconsistency on offense has certainly been a concern for the Aces early on in the season. Jewell Lloyd, acquired from Seattle in the offseason, has been particularly struggling. She is averaging under 10 points per game on less than 30% shooting so far.
Sparks vs Aces WNBA Pick
The Sparks and Aces hold a combined 7-10 record, despite both being expected to compete for a title. Los Angeles has had the worst of it, but is starting to show signs of improvement. They lost by 15 to the Aces a couple of weeks ago, but I expect this rematch to be much closer. While I don’t see Las Vegas losing at home in this one, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Sparks managed to cover a relatively large 10.5 point spread.
