  • Meanwhile, the Phoenix Mercury dethroned the defending champion New York Liberty to move on to the semifinal round.
  • These squads previously squared off on Jul. 16, with the Lynx claiming a 79-66 victory.

One of the games on Sunday’s WNBA postseason slate features the Minnesota Lynx hosting the Phoenix Mercury in Game 1 of this second-round matchup. Who has the edge in our Lynx vs Mercury pick?

Lynx vs Mercury Game 1 Preview

After defeating Golden State by 29 points in the series opener, the Lynx trailed by 14 points heading into the final frame of Game 2. However, the league’s top team responded with a 26-11 burst over the final 10 minutes, punching their ticket to the semifinal round.

Napheesa Collier led the way with 24 points, seven rebounds, and four assists on 10-of-16 shooting from the field. Kayla McBride added 18 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

On the other side, the Mercury led by as many as 12 points in the first half of their close-out game against New York. After seeing its lead shrink to just one point, Phoenix responded by outcoring the Liberty 19-14 in the final frame en route to a 79-73 victory.

Satou Sabally posted a double-double that consisted of 23 points and 12 rebounds. She also tallied three assists and two steals. Alyssa Thomas finished with 20 points, 11 boards, and 11 dimes. This was the fifth time she’s produced a tripled-double in a playoff game.

Lynx vs Mercury WNBA Pick

Minnesota took three of the four regular-season matchups between these franchises. This stretch includes a double-digit victory back in late July. Although the Lynx are the top scoring team in the postseason, Phoeinx leads the field in points allowed, giving up just 69 points per outing.

In addition to winning 34 games during the regular season and sweeping through the first round of the playoffs, the Lynx have also won seven of their last 10 matchups. With that being said, look for Minnesota to come out on top in a close one.
