The final stop on the Grand Slam ride for 2025 comes in New York, as the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center hosts the US Open. Another competitive women’s Grand Slam event is likely, with Aryna Sabalenka bidding to end a calendar year without a major title.

However, will the trend of non-favorites winning Grand Slams continue at Flushing Meadows?

Women’s US Open Outright Winner Contenders

Aryna Sabalenka

Aryna Sabalenka is undeniably the best player on the WTA Tour this season. However, her strike-rate in the Grand Slam events has been slightly underwhelming. She has already lost in two finals, and she fell at the semi-final stage at Wimbledon.

But, Sabalenka has a proven game for the hard courts, and she has reached the final at the US Open in each of the last two years. Overall, across all hard court Grand Slams, she has reached the last five finals.

Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek put to bed the argument that she only excels on clay courts at the US Open in 2022 when beating Ons Jabeur in straight sets.

The Pole once again showed her durability at Wimbledon, producing a sensational display at the All England Club to claim a first title on the grass. Despite going under the radar throughout 2025, she has reached the final four in every Slam, and she boasts an 80% win rate at the US Open.

Coco Gauff

American hopes will likely hinge on 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff once again in 2025. The 21-year-old continues to be the leading American hope in tennis, but she has endured a frustrating season aside from her French Open success.

She fell in the first round at Wimbledon earlier in the summer, and was eliminated in the fourth round at the US Open in 2024. She will be a short price in the betting, but arguably, she is still slightly inconsistent.

Women’s US Open Outright Winner Pick

Sabalenka’s record in Slams this season means that she is opposable at the top of the betting. I really liked Amanda Anisimova’s chances at Wimbledon at a big price, and she was excellent up until nerves got the better of her in the final. Her game excels on hard courts and she has a realistic chance to respond in New York. However, the main preference is for Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva.

She was excellent on her way to the last eight at Wimbledon, reaching that stage of the second Grand Slam running. Her game is excellent on the hard surface, evident after winning the Dubai Championships earlier this year.
