One of the oldest tennis championships in the world returns for its 2025 edition in late August, as the Grand Slam season rounds off at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The best players on the ATP Tour will be in action in New York, but can anyone stop the dominance enjoyed by Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in the majors this calendar year?

Men’s US Open Outright Winner Contenders
Jannik Sinner
When it comes to considering the challengers this year, it is hard to overlook the recently crowned Wimbledon champion, Jannik Sinner. The Italian has contested the last four Grand Slam finals, and was the winner at the US Open in 2024 after a straight sets demolition against Taylor Fritz.
Sinner still looks to be a player that is improving on court, and his win in England earlier in the summer defied the belief that his game is only suited to hard courts. Unlikely to see him exiting at Flushing Meadows before at least the semi-finals.
Carlos Alcaraz
Five-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz will be a popular selection at the US Open this summer, as he bids for a second success in New York. The Spaniard lost his unbeaten record in finals earlier this year at Wimbledon, and it would be a slight concern that his game looks better suited to other surfaces.
Alcaraz suffered a second round exit at the major last year, and has gone no further than the quarterfinals in each of the last two editions of the Australian Open.
Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic is a four-time US Open champion, with his latest success coming in 2023 when landing a straight sets success. The Serbian has still performed beyond his age this year, but it does appear as though the younger stars are catching up.
Despite that, he has still reached at least the semi-final stage in all three majors this season. It is impossible to rule out his fairytale comeback, but the smarter money may lie elsewhere.
Men’s US Open Outright Winner Pick
Sinner looks like the most logical pick to win the men’s US Open this year. But, at such a short price, it could be worth taking a chance on a player at higher odds. First-time winners of the major have dominated in New York in recent years, indicated by four of the last five achieving the feat.
Therefore, proven hard court specialist Jack Draper could be a viable angle. The Brit didn’t enjoy his home Grand Slam at Wimbledon on his unfavored grass surface, but he retains a live chance based on his victory at Indian Wells earlier this calendar year.
