Canadian rivals lock horns in the second round of matches in the MLS in 2026 on Feb 28. Find the odds and our Vancouver vs. Toronto picks here.

The Whitecaps fell short in their bid to win a first MLS Cup last term, but they made a winning start in their bid to avenge that setback on MD1.

Toronto failed to win at the first time of asking last weekend, and they will need to be more defensively solid if they are to upset the odds on Saturday in Vancouver.

Whitecaps Efficiency Catches the Eye

Jesper Sorensen’s Vancouver Whitecaps came extremely close to winning their first MLS Cup in 2025, and their goal this term will be to go one better.

The Whitecaps have kept clean sheets in their first two competitive fixtures in 2026, which includes a 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake on opening weekend in the MLS. Vancouver were effective with the ball, controlling the pace of the game, and showing creativity to create five shots on target.

Their match-winning goal was scored early in the second half by Aziel Jackson, with the winger’s pace likely to create further problems for Toronto at BC Place this weekend.

Toronto Face Uphill Struggle to Achieve Playoff Spot

Last season is likely to be one that Toronto FC fans would like to forget about quickly. However, Robin Fraser’s side are unlikely to mount a playoff challenge once again in 2026, as the team continues its rebuild both on and off the field.

On the field, their defensive weakness from last term was once again apparent on opening night in the MLS, losing 3-2 against FC Dallas. The one plus despite the defeat was the fact that both starting strikers found the back of the net.

However, there is clearly a lack of balance in their starting eleven, with the midfield being too offensive-minded, leaving the back four exposed.

Vancouver vs. Toronto Picks

Toronto’s open nature when the ball is turned over means that they will likely play a very defensive-minded system on Saturday. However, Vancouver’s excellent offensive players ensure that the hosts should have the quality to get a second straight win on the board in the MLS.
