Magpies Embarrassed in Midweek by Barca
Eddie Howe will be hopeful of a response from his Newcastle side on Sunday after shipping seven goals against Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek.
However, positives could be taken from the fact that they held their own at the Nou Camp for three quarters of the tie. Newcastle’s league form has improved in recent weeks, winning three of their last five to move to within six points of the top six.
Anthony Gordon is a man in form for the Magpies, scoring in his last two Premier League appearances.

Black Cats Chasing Derby Double
Regis Le Bris will be slightly disappointed in the manner of Sunderland’s form, as the Black Cats have dropped into the bottom half of the standings, failing to build on a solid first half of the campaign.
Last weekend’s 1-0 home loss against Brighton continued their negative form. However, confidence will be taken from the fact that Sunderland were 1-0 winners at Leeds in their last away fixture. But, they haven’t won successive EPL clashes on the road since May 2014.
Interestingly, the Black Cats still hold an excellent stat when scoring first, as they have avoided defeat in ten.

Newcastle vs. Sunderland Picks
Newcastle have failed to win in their last five home matches against Sunderland, but their upturn in form gives them a strong chance this weekend. The Black Cats have largely struggled on the road this season, and a response to their midweek loss in Barcelona could be likely for the Magpies.
