A significant day of Premier League action is set for Jan 25, and a fascinating clash is set for St. James’ Park when Newcastle vs. Aston Villa will be staged.
Unai Emery’s Villa lead the race in the fight for a Champions League spot, but their drop in form has been alarming after winning just once in their last four.
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle are three points off the top four spots at this stage of the season, but they have registered three wins since the turn of the year, and have been incredibly reliable at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle remain in a prominent position for a Champions League finish in 2025-26. However, their home form has been the driving force in their success, winning seven of their eleven at St. James Park, picking up an average of 2.09 points per game.
In contrast, last weekend’s 0-0 draw at Wolves means that they have now picked up 0.91 points per game on the road. Their home form is also reflected by the fact that they have gone eight without defeat in front of their own fans, and they could win three straight games at the start of a new calendar year at St. James’ Park for the first time since 2012.
Bruno Guimaraes is unlikely to feature, while Yoane Wissa could lead the line in place of the under-performing Woltemade.

Unai Emery has cut a frustrated figure at Aston Villa in recent weeks, and his comments following last weekend’s 1-0 loss against Everton sparked concern.
The coach indicated that his side are outsiders in the race for a Champions League spot, despite holding an eight-point advantage over fifth-place Man United. Scoring issues have once again reappeared, as the Villa have failed to score in their last ten.
It could be worth noting that their impressive 18.9% conversion rate has hidden the number of chances that they have created from open play.

Newcastle have avoided defeat in their last 17 home league matches against Aston Villa, winning on eleven occasions, and racking up a 13-1 aggregate score across the last four.
