- Liverpool have failed to win in the EPL this calendar year
- Newcastle have gone two without a win
All eyes will be on the race for Champions League qualification on Jan 31, as Newcastle United travel to Anfield to face Liverpool.
It has been a miserable start to the calendar year for Arne Slot’s team, as they have failed to win in five matches.
Newcastle’s form has also dropped, losing last weekend against Aston Villa to sit five points off the Champions League spots.

Pressure Increasing On Slot
Remarkably, there are growing calls for Arne Slot to be fired at Liverpool, despite having guided the Reds to only their second Premier League title in his first season in charge.
However, there has been an alarming drop off in form this term, despite half a billion dollars being spent on new signings. Defensive issues continued to impact their progress, and they were evident last weekend in a 3-2 loss at Bournemouth. As well as defensive issues, the Reds have also stuttered offensively at Anfield.
Since the opening day, Liverpool have failed to score more than once in their last ten at home. In fact, they are averaging just 1.45 home goals per game, which is the lowest since the 2011-12 campaign.

Magpies Faltering on the Road
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle appeared to be on course for a UCL spot a few weeks back after winning three games on the bounce. However, their form has since dropped, picking up just a single point from their last two.
A defeat at home against Aston Villa was a sign of their shortcomings, as they lack goals in the final third. No side in the top nine have scored fewer than Newcastle so far this term.
One of the most alarming factors is their away record. The Magpies have won just twice from eleven away from home, scoring an extremely low average of 0.91 per game. Only Wolves and Nottingham Forest have failed to score in more away games this season than Newcastle.

Liverpool vs. Newcastle Picks
Newcastle’s poor record on the road is impossible to overlook this weekend. Meanwhile, it should be noted that Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 18 against the Magpies, winning 13 of those matches.
Newcastle have also failed to win in their last 29 trips to Anfield, suffering 24 defeats over that period.
