- Man City have lost ground in the title race after failing to win in four of their last five
- Liverpool have dropped to sixth after winning once in their previous five
Inconsistent English heavyweights collide in the Premier League on Feb 8, as Man City bid to keep their title challenge on track when they travel to Liverpool.
Pep Guardiola’s side have failed to win in four of their last five, but they looked back to their dazzling best in midweek after powering past Newcastle United in the EFL Cup.
The reigning champions have dropped to sixth, as Liverpool have won just once in their last five. A defeat on Sunday could see them drop to as low as eighth in the EPL standings.

Reds Losing Ground in European Challenge
Arne Slot’s defending champions ended a poor run of domestic form last weekend after recording an eye-catching 4-1 home win over Newcastle United.
However, the damage has already been done; failing to win in 2026 has dropped the club down to sixth. Despite their issues, the Reds have still shown their powers of recovery this season, winning a staggering 28 points from losing positions since the start of 2024-25.
Hugo Ekitike is the team’s shining light, recording 12 goal involvements in his debut campaign.

Title Chances Falling Away for City
Consistency has been the biggest issue for Man City this season. When the team is at its best, it is the best in the competition, but its inability to constantly play at a high standard has hindered it.
Guardiola’s side have won just one of their last five, playing out draws in three fixtures across that period. Interestingly, City are the only EPL team yet to concede in the first half this calendar year.
However, they are also the only team in 2026 yet to score in the second half. A lot of attention will be on Erling Haaland this weekend, as the striker has failed to score on his three previous league visits to Anfield.

Liverpool vs. Man City Picks
Man City haven’t completed a league double over Liverpool since 1936-37. Meanwhile, the Reds have lost just one of their last 22 home fixtures against City. The fact that there have been 22 previous draws between these sides could indicate that being an interesting betting angle.
