  • D.C. United have won once in their opening two matches

The reigning MLS Cup champions are back in action on March 7, as Inter Miami travel to M&T Bank Stadium to take on D.C. United in the nation’s capital.

Inter bounced back to winning ways in an ill-tempered derby against Orlando City last weekend, while D.C. United were beaten for the first time in 2026 in their previous fixture.

Defensively-Minded D.C. to Test Inter

Rene Weiler will likely be appeased with the start to the season that his D.C. United have enjoyed. The coach, in his first full season with the franchise, has adopted a defensive style of play.

That has ensured that they have been difficult to break down in the opening two rounds. However, United were unable to build on a victory on the opening day of the campaign last weekend, as they were edged out by Austin.

United once again looked to play a counter-attacking style of play, with Baribo and Peglow tasked with stretching the opposing defensive line. Against high quality opposition this weekend, a similar approach is likely.

Inter Back on Track

Inter Miami endured a miserable start to the season after losing 3-0 against LAFC. However, they were able to avenge that setback in their following fixture, landing an ill-tempered 4-2 win over Orlando City.

Unsurprisingly, Lionel Messi was at the heart of the comeback win, scoring twice. Javier Mascherano’s side still appears to be getting accustomed to a new-look system, with Berterame leading the line instead of Suarez.

St. Clair has impressed in the opening two rounds, despite allowing five goals.
