The second of the World Cup hosts to be in action this summer will be Canada, as they open their campaign on MD1 against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12.
All of the pressure will be on Jesse Marsch’s side, who will be chasing their first ever win at the World Cup finals.

Canada will be playing in their third World Cup this summer, and there will be pressure on Jesse Marsch and his players to make history.
The Reds have never previously won a match at the tournament, most recently losing all three of their group games in 2022. Their recent results have been mixed, having gone four without defeat, but also winning just once over that period. A lot will hinge on their defensive solidity, as Canada have kept clean sheets in two of their previous three.
However, Canada could be without their main star for MD1, as Alphonso Davies continues to recover from an injury that saw him miss much of the 2025-26 campaign with Bayern Munich.

With all eyes on Canada due to being hosts, this could be a perfect opening night assignment for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Sergej Barbanez’s team will be playing in their second World Cup, having won one of their three group stage fixtures in 2014. Bosnia lost just once in ten qualifying matches, and their spot in this summer’s event was achieved following a shock win over Italy in the playoffs.
Wins have been in short supply for the team, having played out draws in their previous five. That includes poor recent results against lowly-ranked rivals such as North Macedonia and Panama.
Bosnia have proven very difficult to beat over the last 18 months, with their only loss coming against Austria. Canada find goals hard to come by, meaning that a cagey and tight fixture on MD1 in Toronto could see the points shared on June 12.
