  • Michael Carrick landed a 2-0 home win over Man City in his first game in charge of Man United
  • Arsenal sit seven points clear at the EPL summit

Historic English rivals collide at the Emirates Stadium on Jan 25, as title-chasing Arsenal host a resurgent Man United.

The Gunners remain in pole position in the title race, as they hold a healthy seven-point advantage over Man City. However, they have played out draws in their last two league games.

Michael Carrick’s start to life at Old Trafford couldn’t have got off to a better start, as the Red Devils dismantled Man City last weekend, with a 2-0 scoreline flattering Pep Guardiola’s side.

Gunners Hoping to Stretch Title Advantage

It has been an excellent season for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, but it could yet still be too early to be crowning the English champions.

The Gunners sit seven points clear at the summit, but they have played out disappointing draws in their last two games. A lack of success from set pieces on the road at Nottingham Forest last Saturday stifled their progress.

There’s no denying that there has been an over-reliance on goals from set plays from the Gunners this season, with 17 of their 40 goals coming from either corners, free-kicks, or penalties.

Viktor Gyokeres scored in midweek, but the Swede could yet be benched in favor of Gabriel Jesus on Sunday. Kai Havertz is also back in contention after returning from injury.

United Impress Under Carrick

Many experts have been quick to write off Man United’s chances of achieving a Champions League finish this season. However, that is remarkably naïve, given that the Red Devils currently sit fifth and are just one point behind Liverpool.

Only Arsenal have suffered fewer defeats than United this season, while the Red Devils rank among the highest scorers in the division after netting 38 goals.

United were excellent in their first game under Carrick last weekend, as the team dominated from the first minute in their 2-0 success against Man City. The Red Devils didn’t allow City to have a single shot on target, and they were efficient in the final third themselves, hitting the target with seven of their ten efforts.

Bryan Mbeumo impressed in a central role, and he could be preferred over Benjamin Sesko to keep that spot.

Arsenal vs. Man United Picks

Arsenal’s reliance on set pieces could be their key on Sunday. However, United’s counter-attacking style of play is a perfect tactic to unsettle this Gunners side. Styles could impact a match result, as mentioned in our Super Bowl betting guide.

The Red Devils were incredibly efficient in front of goal last weekend, and that same coolness could ensure that an away win is of huge interest in North London.
