The pressure will continue to increase on Mauricio Pochettino and his team, as the games before the start of the home World Cup are running out. However, questionable form and the coach’s struggles to find his best starting eleven are raising concerns.
Uruguay will be considered a leading dark horse chance at the World Cup next summer, and they will be aiming to maintain their positive momentum when they travel to the U.S. on Tuesday.
Opportunities to fine tune tactics and preferred systems are running thin for Pochettino, as Tuesday’s clash with Uruguay represents one of his final opportunities to look at players before naming his World Cup squad.
The U.S. at least come into this international window with a win under their belt after overcoming Australia last month.
Christian Pulisic has been omitted from the latest squad, while Timothy Tillman and Roman Celentano could be given rare opportunities to shine on Tuesday.
Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay have already assured their spot in next summer’s World Cup, and they impressed throughout South American World Cup qualification.
The nation won seven of their 18 matches, and suffered just four losses. Uruguay’s red-hot form has continued in recent months, most recently beating Uzbekistan with ease last time out.
Their proven ability against some of the best nations in the world ensures that this will be a good test for Pochettino’s USA on Tuesday.

This will be a big challenge for Pochettino’s side, as they will come up against one of the best nations from the South American region.
