For the first time in nearly ten years, Newcastle and Sunderland will collide in a Tyne-Wear derby in the Premier League. Excitement levels ahead of one of the fixtures of the season are high, and you can find our picks here.
Sunderland have dropped to ninth in the standings after winning just once across their last five. Last weekend, they were beaten 3-0 by Man City.
Newcastle bring the better form into the clash, winning three of their last four in the Premier League. However, they were held to a midweek draw in the Champions League by Bayer Leverkusen.

Sunderland have enjoyed a memorable return to the Premier League this season, and they are already likely half-way toward reaching their target of survival.
The Black Cats suffered just a fourth defeat of the season at Man City last Saturday, but their home form throughout the campaign has been excellent.
They have avoided defeat in their seven fixtures at the Stadium of Light, scoring an impressive 14 goals. It should also be noted that they have avoided defeat in each of the last eight EPL meetings between the rivals.

Newcastle haven’t recorded a league win against Newcastle since August 2011. However, this fixture could come at the perfect time for Eddie Howe’s side, as they have been building momentum in recent weeks.
The Magpies have avoided defeat in their last four in the Premier League, winning on three occasions across that period. Last weekend, they battled to a hard-fought 2-1 home success against Burnley.
However, their away form continues to be a major issue. Newcastle have won just one of their seven on the road this season, conceding an average of 1.29 goals per game.

This is one of the fixtures that Premier League soccer fans have been most excited about throughout the season.
The bragging rights could go the way of the hosts. Sunderland will be up for this challenge, and their long unbeaten streak against their rivals in the league is eye-catching.
It is also worth noting that the Magpies will have less time to prepare for this clash after fielding a strong starting eleven in the Champions League on Wednesday.
