Philadelphia are rightly considered among the leading contenders for playoff success this year after finishing the campaign at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
However, New York City could be primed to mount a serious challenge. NYC showed their character in the previous round to hold their nerve to see off Charlotte FC on the road in Game Three.

Bradley Carnell’s Philadelphia Union have been one of the standout teams in the Eastern Conference throughout the 2025 season, going 20-6-8.
They finished a point clear at the top of the regular season standings. Their excellent level of performances continued in the opening round of the playoffs after easily overcoming the Chicago Fire.
In Game Two, the Union landed a comfortable 3-0 away win. Philadelphia’s home form deserves huge respect this weekend, as they have gone 12-5-1. Meanwhile, they have kept clean sheets in 44% of their fixtures at Subaru Park.
Pascal Jansen’s New York City will be the huge outsiders to progress through to the MLS Conference finals this weekend.
However, massive confidence would have been gained following their strong showing against Charlotte in the previous round. They came back from a hammer-blow loss in Game Two to secure their spot in this stage with an excellent 3-1 win on the road.
Their counter-attacking ability could be a key trend worth following this weekend. NYC will need to improve offensively on the road after failing to score in 37% of their away matches in 2025.

There will be major pressure on the home side this weekend, as they bid to secure their spot in the conference finals.
