Intense rivals will collide at the UBS Arena on Jan 28, as the NY Rangers bid to snap a two-game losing run against the NY Islanders in 2025-26.
The Islanders remain in a promising position in the battle for a playoff spot, as they sit third in the Metropolitan Division.
This term has been a huge disappointment for the Rangers, and their mood is likely reflected by the fact that they sit bottom of the Division.
It has been a reliable opening half to the season for the NY Islanders, having accumulated an overall record of 28-19-5 to sit third in the Metropolitan Division standings.
A big part of their success has been their excellent defensive record, with no side in the Eastern Conference having allowed fewer goals.
Huge confidence would have been gained from their latest outing, as they hammered the Philadelphia Flyers 4-0 on Monday evening.
This season is unlikely to live long in the memory for fans of the New York Rangers.
The team have dropped to bottom of the Metropolitan Division after losing seven of their last ten in regulation time. Meanwhile, they currently have a losing overall record, which reads 22-25-6.
Scoring goals has been an issue for the team in 2025-26, as they have netted just 143, which is the second fewest in the Division. But, confidence may have been built on Monday after registering an overtime win over the Boston Bruins.
