Caps in Strong Playoff Position
It has been a reliable season to this point for Spencer Carbery’s Washington Capitals, but they will still require a strong end to the season to secure a playoff spot.
A response will be expected by the coach this week, as the Caps were brushed aside by the Montreal Canadiens over the weekend, losing 6-2 on the road. Washington rarely threatened in the defeat, with their only bright offensive moments coming in the forms of goals for Alexander Ovechkin.
Being back on home ice is a key trend worth considering, as the Caps have gone 19-10-3 at the Capital One Arena in 2025-26.
Mammoth In Playoff Fight in Central Division
The Utah Mammoth will also be hoping to pick up a crucial victory in their pursuit of a playoff spot this week.
Utah sit fourth in the Central Division, but a considerable gap has opened up between themselves and third-place Minnesota Wild. The Mammoth have gone 5-5-0 across their last ten, and they will need to respond following a defeat against the Chicago Blackhawks. Their performance in that 4-0 defeat was well below the standard required.
The Mammoth rarely threatened offensively in the loss, and there will be a requirement for JJ Peterka to be more clinical in the final third.
