Both Houston and Iowa State are in a tight race to take the Big 12 crown, so whoever wins today will make a major statement to the rest of the conference. Houston heads to Hilton Coliseum, an extremely tough place to get a win. Kelvin Sampson will need to pull out all the stops to get the victory, with the Cougars coming in as slight underdogs.
Houston is not the most explosive offensive team in the country; however, they’ll need all the scoring they can get from Emanuel Sharp and Kingston Flemings. Defensively, they remain elite, currently ranking 2nd in the nation in points allowed at just 61.2 PPG.
Iowa State has been impeccable at home this year, currently undefeated at 14–0. This has kept them right in the Big 12 title race and gives them a huge opportunity if they can beat Houston. They are coming off a dominant, statement win against the Jayhawks in their last outing.
With their top-20 offense and top-5 defense, the Cyclones will need to be at their best against the Cougars. Milan Momcilovic is averaging 18.4 PPG while shooting 51.6% from three-point range. On the defensive side, Tamin Lipsey is averaging 2.3 SPG and acts as their floor general, setting the pace and maintaining discipline.
This will no doubt be an exciting game, with Iowa State slightly favored at -1.5. The over/under is 134.5, and the moneyline is +110 for Houston and -130 for Iowa State.
