Indiana got off to a slow start and trailed 39-28 before trimming the deficit to three points at the break. However, the Spurs responded with a 67-41 scoring advantage in the second half en route to a 133-104 victory.
Aaron Nesmith was one of three starters who reached double figures. He led the way with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting overall and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Bennedict Mathurin added 11 points and four rebounds, connecting on four of his six shot attempts.
OKC Outlasts Rockets In Potential Conference Finals Preview
The matchup between the conference's top two teams from last season did not disappoint. Fast forwarding to the second overtime period, the Thunder trailed 124-123 in the closing seconds.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander drew a foul on Kevin Durant and knocked down two foul shots to give OKC a one-point lead. On the ensuing possession, Jabari Smith Jr. missed a 19-foot jumper as the game clock expired, securing the victory for the defending champs.
SGA powered the offense with 35 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals on 12-for-26 shooting from the field and a 10-for-14 effort from the charity stripe. Chet Holmgren contributed 28 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.
