Event Preview
The NASCAR Cup Series action continues this weekend, as the FireKeepers Casino 400 is set for Michigan. It could be a pivotal race on the schedule, but the recent history suggests that outsiders are worth considering, with a number of shock champions being crowned.
A total of 200 laps will make up the 400-mile race distance, with the final stage seeing the final 80 laps being completed. Kevin Harvick has an excellent recent record in the race, winning on four occasions since 2018.
William Byron retained his spot at the top of the Drivers’ Championship standings last weekend after finishing fifth in the Cracker Barrel 400. But, last weekend’s race was all about the return to winning form of Ryan Blaney, which we accurately predicted.
Kyle Larson remains hot on the tail of Byron at the top of the standings after finishing eighth last weekend. Meanwhile, Christopher Bell, Denny Hamlin, and Tyler Reddick all finished in the top ten spots.
Carson Hocevar was one of the eye-catching performers in Nashville last weekend, as he finished second. That marked the second race this season in which the huge outsider finished as the runner-up in the Cup Series race.
FireKeeper Casino 400 Picks
This race typically has a wide-open feel to it, and there could be value in the betting to side with an outsider. For that reason, we like the chances of Chase Briscoe. Briscoe enjoyed a fine weekend in Nashville last time out, and he has finished in the top five in two of the last three races.
