The penultimate race of the NASCAR Cup Series regular season is set for Richmond Raceway this Saturday.

The Cook Out 400 will give drivers an outstanding chance to secure their spot in the playoffs, while it could also be a daunting prospect for some, who may head into next weekend’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 needing a positive result to secure their spot in the postseason. Event Preview

The pressure continues to increase on the drivers on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule this weekend, as the penultimate race of the regular season is staged at Richmond Raceway. The Cook Out 400 has been staged since 1958, with the field completing a total distance of 300 miles.

William Byron retained his spot at the top of the Drivers’ Championship last weekend after taking a solid fourth-place finish in the Go Bowling at the Glen. Chase Elliott lost ground on the leader after finishing only 26th in the classifications.

Denny Hamlin also failed to seize the opportunity after finishing outside of the top 20 places. However, there was a welcome return to form for Christopher Bell, who eventually finished as the runner-up. Bell’s finish ended a run of seven races without a podium finish.

Kyle Larson will be one of a number of drivers that will be aiming for a return to form this weekend. Larson is still considered to be one of the leading chances to win the NASCAR Cup Series this season, but he has failed to finish in the top 25 in each of the last two races.

Cook Out 400 Picks

Chris Buescher could hold interesting claims this weekend. He is a previous winner of the Cook Out 400, and his recent form has been pretty reliable. He finished third in last weekend’s Go Bowling at the Glen, meaning that he has now finished in the top 20 in ten of the last eleven races.
