Freeland on the Road is a Different Story

Freeland's 2.30 ERA looks strong on paper, but context matters here. He pitches half his games at Coors Field, where the thin air and spacious outfield benefit ground-ball pitchers. Away from Denver, his numbers have consistently been worse. In 2025 he went 4.98 ERA overall with 17 losses, and his FIP away from Coors sat at 4.51. That's a significant gap from his home profile.

Colorado is hitting .247 with 16 home runs. Mickey Moniak leads the team with five homers and nine RBI while batting .300. TJ Rumfield is at .333. The Rockies have lost three straight, all to San Diego, and are 6-9 on the season.

Can Pivetta Control the Game

Pivetta's 2026 has not started how his 2025 ended. He went 13-5 with a 2.87 ERA last year. That was the best season of his career, including a 2.36 ERA at Petco specifically. The 2026 number is 5.54 through three starts, with six walks in 13 innings and a rocky Opening Day outing against Detroit (6 ER in 3 IP).

San Diego is hitting .219 with 13 home runs. Jackson Merrill leads the team with 10 RBI. Ramon Laureano has three homers and nine RBI while batting .269. The Padres have won four straight and are 9-6, sitting second in the NL West.

Rockies vs Padres Pick

Colorado is 2-7 on the road, down 3-0 in this series, and sending a pitcher whose away splits are significantly different from his Coors numbers. San Diego is at home on a four-game win streak with a pitcher who has historically been strong at Petco. The price is steep at -240, but the matchup favors the home team.
