Paddack Looks to Bounce Back in Homecoming Start
Chris Paddack is back where it started. The Marlins signed him to a one-year deal worth $4 million in February. Two starts in, the ERA sits at 8.31. Ten strikeouts and four walks in 8.2 innings. Two home runs allowed.
Miami is hitting .262 with 10 home runs. Xavier Edwards leads the team at .396 with a .453 OBP. Liam Hicks has three homers and 13 RBI while hitting .314. The Marlins are 8-5 and have won back-to-back after sweeping the Reds to close out their series yesterday.
Montero Steps In for Verlander
Keider Montero's first start this season was promising. Replacing Verlander, who landed on the 15-day IL with hip inflammation, Montero retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced against St. Louis. Ran into trouble in the fifth inning and left after allowing three runs.
Detroit is hitting .239 with seven home runs. Colt Keith leads the team at .350. Dillon Dingler has eight RBI. Kerry Carpenter has two homers and seven RBI while batting .184. The Tigers are 4-9. Five straight losses. They got swept by Minnesota on the road and haven't won since April 5.
Marlins vs Tigers Pick
Detroit is home and favored, but this team is in freefall. Five-game losing streak. 4-9 record. Paddack has struggled, but Miami's lineup is one of the better ones in the NL. The Marlins are on a roll and should take this one. Take the value.
