Luis Severino's first start on March 30 against Atlanta was fair. Went 5.0 innings, allowed three runs, struck out six. Walked four batters. Took the loss. His second start on April 5 was worse. Lasted just 3.1 innings against Houston. Gave up three runs on four hits. Walked four more batters. He is struggling in the early parts of the season.
Oakland is hitting .224 with 10 home runs. Shea Langeliers leads the team with five homers and eight RBI while batting .275. Max Muncy is at .308. They've lost seven of 10 and scored just three runs in yesterday's 5-3 loss to New York.
Will Warren went 9-8, 4.44 ERA last year as a rookie. Made 33 starts. Threw 162.1 innings. Led all AL rookies with 171 strikeouts. Warren increased his sinker usage by 10 percentage points this year. His ground ball rate jumped to 55.2 percent through two starts. Went 1-0, 2.70 ERA with two walks in 10 innings. Beat San Francisco 8-2 on April 4 after allowing just one run in 4.1 innings. Then beat Miami 9-7 on April 11 with 5.2 innings of two-run ball.
The Yankees are hitting .225 with 11 home runs. Ben Rice is crushing at .379 with 11 RBI and three homers. Aaron Judge has three homers and seven RBI despite batting .237. They're 8-2 with the best ERA in baseball at 2.42.
