Lopez Can't Find the Strike Zone
Lopez was one of the better stories in baseball last year. Through 13 starts, he was 7-2 with a 2.17 ERA — third-lowest ERA in MLB over that stretch. Then a left elbow flexor strain ended his season in August. Through two starts this year, the walks are a problem. Ten walks in 8.1 innings. The sinker and slider are there. The command isn't. A 6.48 ERA and 2.28 WHIP through two outings is not ideal.
Oakland is hitting .230 with 10 home runs. Shea Langeliers leads the team with five homers and nine RBI. Max Muncy is batting .314. The A's have won three straight and took yesterday's game 4-0 behind strong pitching.
Senga Looks Like the 2023 Version Again
The last two years have been rough for Senga. Missed almost all of 2024 with shoulder and calf injuries. Came back in 2025, was brilliant through 13 starts (1.47 ERA), then a hamstring ended that too.
Two starts in 2026, Senga is sitting 97.4 mph. His FIP is 1.74. He's punching out 34 percent of the hitters he faces. No homers allowed. The ghost forkball is working again, and he's attacking the zone at a rate that looks closer to 2023 than to the pitcher who got sent down last September.
New York is hitting .239 with 10 home runs. Luis Robert Jr. leads the team at .326 with a .463 OBP and seven RBI. Francisco Alvarez has three homers. The Mets are 7-7 and have lost three straight, including yesterday's shutout.
Athletics vs Mets Pick
Oakland is hot and the Mets have lost three straight. Lopez walked 10 batters in 8.1 innings. Senga has a 1.74 FIP and is striking out a third of the lineup. We believe that the Mets have the pitching edge and will bounce back.
