Ginn was the Mets' 52nd overall pick in 2020 before getting traded to Oakland. Now he's pitching against them. Two starts into 2026, he's 0-0 with a 5.14 ERA. Seven innings, six hits, four strikeouts, two walks, one home run. Not sharp, but not imploding either. He went 4-7, 5.08 ERA last year in 23 appearances.
Oakland is hitting .227 with 10 home runs. Shea Langeliers leads the team with five homers and eight RBI. Max Muncy is at .319. Brent Rooker has eight RBI despite batting just .146; he's listed as day-to-day and may not play. The A's have won two straight after taking the final two games of their series against the Yankees, including a 1-0 shutout yesterday.
Holmes spent eight years as a reliever. In that time, two All-Star appearances as the Yankees' closer before signing with the Mets and converting to a starter. Last year, he went 12-8, 3.53 ERA in 165.2 innings. Was dominant in the first half, wore down late. This year is cleaner so far. Two starts, 2-0, 1.42 ERA in 12.2 innings. Seven hits, nine strikeouts, five walks. His sinker is still generating ground balls at the same rate.
New York is hitting .243 with 10 home runs. Luis Robert Jr. leads the team at .333 with a .480 OBP and seven RBI. Francisco Alvarez has three home runs. Juan Soto is on the 10-day IL. The Mets are 7-6 and just dropped two straight to Arizona at home.
Oakland won two straight to close the Yankees series, including a 1-0 shutout yesterday. Good momentum. It stops tonight. Holmes is 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA. We think the pitching carries.
